Sandstorm Middle Eastern Dance Company

History

The Sandstorm Middle Eastern Dance Company was founded in May of 2005 as a way to bring Middle Eastern Dance as a theatrical art form to the public at large.

Sandstorm's first endeavor was in January 2006 with two sold-out performances at The Schuster Center for Performing Arts in Dayton. They followed this a few months later, with another sold out performance by world renowned Oudist, John Bilezikjian in April 2006.

In 2007, Sandstorm went on to showcase an original production of Shahrazad’s Carpet: Tales from 1001 Arabian Nights, written by Jennifer Dawson, and voices by Denise Miller, Andy Miller, Gayle Sampson, and Jennifer Dawson, that was performed at both the Freedom Center for Cincinnati’s annual Fine Arts Festival, and at the Sorg Theatre, located in Middletown, OH.

In addition, Sandstorm regularly works with Caravan Workshops to host Hafla’s (dance party’s), and supports Caravan Workshops in bringing in workshops that bring in some of the best Nationally and Internationally known performers and instructors know in the U.S.A.
